India’s badminton icon and Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwal announced that she and her husband Parupalli Kashyap have decided to part ways after seven years of marriage. Saina made the announcement through her social media handle and urged everyone to respect their privacy at the moment.
The reason for divorce is still not know but the badminton star mentioned about choosing peace, growth and healing for themselves.
“Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We’re choosing peace, growth, and healing – for ourselves and each other. I’m grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time,” the two-time Commonwealth Games champion wrote.
The couple tied the knot in December 2018 and their journey began at Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad where the duo trained together. In 2008 Nehwal rose to fame by winning her first BWF World Junior Championship title and then made her Olympic debut in the same year where she reached the quarter finals.
In 2012, Nehwal scripted history by winning Olympic bronze and received prestigious awards such as the Arjuna Award (2009) and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (2010). Parupalli Kashywap on the other hand won the gold medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games which ended the 32-year wait in men’s singles at CWG. In 2013, he bagged world no.6 spot which was also his career best.
