The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed his passing in a post on X (formerly Twitter) late Monday night. “The BCCI mourns the sad demise of former India spinner, Dilip Doshi, who has unfortunately passed away in London. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement read.

Dilip Doshi’s Records

Doshi featured in 33 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals for India between 1979 and 1983, claiming 114 wickets in the longer format and 22 in ODIs. He made an impressive Test debut during Australia’s 1979 tour of India in Chennai, where he returned with figures of 6 for 103 in the first innings and finished the match with 8 for 167. He remains among a select group of just nine Indian cricketers to have taken a five-wicket haul on their Test debut.

Apart from representing India on the international stage, Doshi had a distinguished domestic career, turning out for Saurashtra and Bengal in the Ranji Trophy. He also made his mark in English county cricket, playing for Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire. In a remarkable first-class career, he amassed a total of 898 wickets.

Doshi’s contributions to Indian and international cricket are remembered fondly, and his passing marks the end of an era for a generation of cricket lovers.
