Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra discussed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s prospects for the T20 World Cup. Gaikwad, who struggled initially in the IPL 2024 season after taking over as captain of the Super Kings, found form in the last two matches after facing some challenges in converting good starts into substantial scores.

“My No.1 player in focus is Ruturaj Gaikwad. The first reason for that is the last match’s form. Secondly, this is a big ground. On a big ground, you expect more from a batter who times the ball and puts it into the gaps, chips the ball into the empty big pockets over cover and mid-wicket,” Chopra said.
Ruturaj For T20 World Cup?
Chopra acknowledged that with fierce competition for the top-order position in the Indian team, Ruturaj Gaikwad might not be the leading candidate. However, he suggested that the CSK captain should be considered due to his past performances for the national team. Gaikwad has featured in 19 matches, accumulating 500 runs at a strike rate of 140. Notably, he became the first Indian batsman to achieve a T20I century against Australia, marking a significant milestone in November 2023.
“So Ruturaj Gaikwad will be my first player to watch out for without a shadow of a doubt. He is a gun player and is batting well. He is not a frontrunner but is part of the T20 World Cup list, and he should be kept as well – he scored a century against Australia. Everyone is spoken about, so why not him?” Chopra added.
Chopra, speaking on his YouTube Channel, highlighted Ruturaj Gaikwad as the pivotal player for CSK in their upcoming match against LSG at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, April 19th. Chopra supported his choice based on Gaikwad’s recent form and his standout performance in the previous match against MI.
Gaikwad will enter the match against LSG with a high level of confidence. He delivered an impressive innings of 69 runs from 40 balls against MI at the Wankhede Stadium, a crucial contribution to CSK’s 20-run victory. Additionally, in the match against KKR, Gaikwad played a significant innings, scoring 67 runs from 58 balls and guiding the team to a 7-wicket win.
