In the 32nd match of IPL 2025, which took place on April 16 organized by Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Delhi Capitals, Sanju Samson ended his play due to health issues. During the last over of the powerplay Samson displayed signs of distress which led to him receiving treatment by the physiotherapist. Every RR player attempted a repeat of the previous delivery by trying to slash against Vipraj Nigam but Samson missed his stroke completely. Authorized reports after the match show the RR captain showing visible signs of pain during his at-bat. Samson received examination of his left side rib area from the physio. Samson took a medication after the game extended for an extensive period.
Following an additional ball Samson left the field to end his participation in the match. Samson attempted to connect with Vipraj until he experienced discomfort that led him to end his batting inning. During his batting innings Samson hit 31 runs in 19 balls with two boundaries and three maximums as the RR captain. The substitution allowed Riyan Parag to enter the batting order.

Sanju Samson’s battle with injuries
2025 has been an injury-prone year for Samson throughout the season. At the Wankhede Stadium of Mumbai Samson received an injury to his finger when Jofra Archer bowled him with a delivery during the fifth T20I matchup against England. For Kerala he had to skip all of his Ranji Trophy engagements after the physical injury occurred. Right index finger surgery became necessary for Samson as a medical procedure to treat his finger fracture. Parag took the captaincy duties during the opening three matches of IPL 2025 because Samson operated only as a specialist batsman.
The batting performance of Samson in IPL 2025 comprised seven matches with 224 runs averaging 37.33 through 143.58 strike-rate and his highest score being 66 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
