Rohit Sharma’s Replacement: Could Abhishek Sharma Be the Answer For Champions Trophy 2025?

After being whitewashed from New Zealand at home and almost at the verge of slipping away from the Border Gavaskar Trophy, a higher quality performance from the men in Blue is the need of the hour.

Abhishek Sharma reached his century with a flourishing innings of 100 runs, crafted from 47 deliveries with 17 fours and 2 sixes, before being caught by Myers off Masakadza’s bowling at a devastating strike rate of 212.76.

Rohit’s Form Concerns The Team

During the Adelaide Pink ball test the Hitman scored 3 and 6 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively. Amidst the Melbourne test Rohit reflected significant struggle against the Australian bowlers as they managed to keep the skipper on the ropes. He scored 3 and 9 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively.

Punjab became the ninth team to breach the 400 run mark in any One day international match. Although Saurashtra is yet to bat but captain Abhishek Sharma’s 170 run knock has proved his capability to provide stability to the top-order lineup. During the innings, Abhishek and Prabhsimran Singh struck centuries and registered the joint second-highest partnership for the first wicket as they added 298 runs.
