With Rohit Sharma losing his leadership role at Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL season, the idea of the 37-year-old losing out on his Team India captaincy might be a possibility as well.
Hardik Pandya has been given the reigns for Mumbai Indians for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. The news has got all fans in shock who didn’t expect the Hitman being removed from captaincy after what can be deemed as a positive ODI World Cup 2023 campaign for Team India. The question which arises now is that if the change in Team India captaincy is a possibility, who will takeover from Rohit as the captain of the team.
End of road for Rohit?
With Team India generally going for a captain which is suitable for all three formats of the game, Rohit Sharma was one of the few suitors who had fit in the role perfectly. However, with age being a factor as well nowadays, the role could be shifted to someone who has a good amount of cricket left in him.
One of the options can be his IPL teammate Hardik Pandya. The only thing which can stop Pandya from taking over as captain is him not playing Test cricket.
While Suryakumar Yadav was given the T20I captaincy for the series against Australia and South Africa, he fails to impress in One Day Internationals which can hinder his chance to become captain in all the 3 formats.
