With Team India skipper Rohit Sharma and BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar addressing the media after they announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Rohit emphasized and explained why he has chosen 4 spinners in his squad which is more than the usual tweakers required in the format. However, Rohit’s decision can put Team India’s World Cup hopes in jeopardy after pitch curator Damian Hoff’s statement on pitches.
Rohit Sharma said, “I wanted 4 spinners in the squad. I won’t say the reason for that here, I’ll let you know in the USA”. pic.twitter.com/hyxocC24NG

Pitch Curator Reveals Big Detail
When asked about what the pitches will be like in the United States, Australian pitch curator Damian Hoff stated that the pitches have been designed to favour T20 cricket. It will have decent pitch and bounce which is favourable for batters in the shortest format of the game. With that being said, it meant that spinners would not get much out of the pitch eventually putting India’s plans out of the picture.
Considering the conditions anticipated in the Caribbean, characterized by slow and low wickets and early match timings at 10 am local time, India has devised a bowling strategy centered around spin for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, who has been in good form, the performance of India’s pacers has been average. Hence, the team has opted for a spin-heavy approach.
Rohit Sharma On Choosing 4 Spinners
The squad includes left-arm spinning all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel, along with wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Although Captain Rohit Sharma refrained from revealing too much about the team’s strategy, he justified the selection of four spinners and only three pacers in the 15-member squad.
“I don’t want to go too much into detail. I’m sure opposition captains are listening to this. I wanted four spinners. We’ve played a lot of cricket there (Caribbean). We know what the conditions are like. With a morning start at 10-10.30 am, there’s a little bit of technical aspect involved in this,” Rohit said.
