Rohit Sharma Faces Traffic Fines For Reckless Driving Ahead Of IND vs BAN World Cup

India's cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, reportedly received several traffic fines for reckless driving on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

India’s cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, reportedly received several traffic fines for reckless driving on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. According to Pune Mirror, Rohit was on his way to Pune to join the Indian cricket team for the World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh when he was issued three online traffic fines for excessive speeding.

The reports indicate that Rohit was driving at extremely high speeds, reaching up to 200 km/h, with his Lamborghini even touching 215 km/h, which drew the attention of traffic authorities. The exact date of the incident is not specified, but it is believed to have occurred between Monday and Tuesday.

Rohit had arrived in Pune with the rest of the Indian squad on Sunday. It’s possible that he spent a day with his family in Mumbai as Monday was a rest day for the Indian cricketers. They resumed practice on Tuesday evening in preparation for their World Cup match at the MCA Stadium on Thursday.

Despite the traffic incident, Rohit has been in exceptional form during the World Cup. He climbed five places to sixth in the ICC ODI batters’ ranking due to his outstanding performances. Rohit scored 131 runs against Afghanistan and followed it up with a remarkable 86 from 63 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan, establishing himself as one of the top batters in the tournament.

The aggressive right-handed batsman aims to maintain his exceptional form against Bangladesh, a team that has defeated India three times in their last four ODIs, including a bilateral series in December 2022 and an Asia Cup Super Four match. Underdogs in the tournament have already demonstrated their ability to upset stronger teams, as witnessed with England and South Africa’s shocking losses to Afghanistan and the Netherlands, respectively.

India is determined to avoid such an upset and maintain their winning streak in the World Cup. A victory against Bangladesh would make it four out of four and put India in a strong position to reclaim the top spot currently held by New Zealand with 8 points.
