According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the BCCI is also considering a change in ODI captaincy. A BCCI source told the publication that after the Champions Trophy win, many believed Rohit would retire from ODIs—but that didn’t happen. Moreover, there has been no concrete discussion regarding Rohit’s future in ODI cricket. With the 2027 World Cup on the horizon, his spot and captaincy appear to be under scrutiny.

Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Team India lost to Australia in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, he led the team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025. At 38 years old, Rohit has shown interest in continuing until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
