Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden were unable to advance to the final of the 2024 French Open men’s doubles. On Thursday, June 6, the Indo-Australian duo lost to Italy’s Simone Boleli and Andrea Vavassori with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 2-6 at Court Simonne-Mathieu, in a match that lasted one hour and 58 minutes. Notably, Bopanna and Ebden had previously defeated Boleli and Vavassori in the Australian Open final at Rod Laver Arena in January.

Rohan Bopanna Bows Out In Doubles Semis
However, this time, the Italian pair managed to avenge their earlier defeat. Boleli and Vavassori are now set to face the winners of the other semi-final between Marcel Granollers & Horacio Zeballos and an undecided opponent.
Bopanna and Ebden faced difficulties throughout the match. They converted their only break point opportunity but conceded two. Despite a strong performance in the second set, where they broke their opponents’ serve twice and didn’t allow any break points, they lost momentum in the third set. They conceded two breaks and failed to create any break point opportunities against Boleli and Vavassori’s serve.
Earlier in the tournament, Bopanna also faced defeat in mixed doubles, partnering with Veronika Kudermetova. They lost 2-6, 2-6 in the first round to Andrea Vavassori and Liudmila Samsonova.
With his French Open campaign over, Bopanna will now prepare for Wimbledon, which is less than a month away. He will also compete in the Paris Olympics, partnering with N Sriram Balaji. Bopanna has had a notable year, winning the Australian Open, becoming the oldest World No.1, and receiving the Padma Shri.
