Robin Uthappa Arrest Warrant: Provident Fund (PF) fraud allegations of INR 23 lakh against former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has led to the issue of an arrest warrant. The order was passed by PF Regional Commissioner Shadakshari Gopal Reddy who directed the Pulakeshinagar police to take action in this matter.
Uthappa had managed Centuries Lifestyle Brand Private Limited, from which PF contributions were reportedly deducted from the salaries of employees. However, these contributions have been allegedly not deposited into their respective accounts.
Is Robin Uthappa Evading Police?
On December 4th, the commissioner of police, Mr Reddy, wrote a letter instructing the police to act on the warrant. This warrant was sent back to the PF office because the policeman believes that Robin Uthappa has shifted residence. Investigation is going on and as of now, he could not be located as of its date.
Under Section 405 of the Indian Penal Code, Uthappa could be charged with ‘criminal breach of trust.’ This section holds employers liable for depositing deducted PF or Family Pension Fund contributions. Failure to do so is a misuse of the funds, which amounts to an offense under the law.
