PBKS secured a 4-wicket win against CSK at their match. Coach Ricky Ponting commended Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer for his game-winning performance which resulted in 72 runs from 41 balls before Pathirana removed him. The Player of the match recognition went to Iyer since he finished his innings by placing his team in position to win with only three runs required from eight balls.
Ricky Pointing’s Views About Shreyas Iyer
“I actually think he’s taken his game to a new level. He’s a more mature player now. I think he understands the game and game situations probably better than ever before. I think that was showcased there tonight, to be able to play the way that he did. He’ll be disappointed with himself that he didn’t hit the winning runs. He didn’t get his team across the line,” Ponting said in the post-match press conference.

“Because I know how much he prides himself on being the man that’s there at the end to win games. But look, I love working with him. He talked to all the players. All the players love working with him. The way he communicates with them, whether it’s during the game or at practice or back at the team hotel. We’ve managed to create a really good environment that everybody seems to be really happy in,” Ponting said.
Shreyas Iyer’s Performance Against CSK
In yesterday’s match where Shreyas Iyer faced CSK resulted in elevated pressure for PBKS. Iyer entered the game when Arya had already fallen and successfully faced each of the 23 balls he received in the initial phase. During his batting innings he shifted from his initial position at 32 to score 50 runs resulting in a smooth offensive performance. During the 17th over he delivered a devastating combination of force and accurate hitting that resulted in hitting Pathirana for 6, 6, 4. The intense pace of Iyer’s batting during the match dominated both the pace of throwing to the floor and his consistent repetitions toward PBKS.
