Revamp For Team India? New BCCI Policy Focuses On Discipline And… | Check The Details

The BCCI has, under the new policy, made it compulsory for players to play in domestic games.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced new restrictions to bring about discipline and oneness among the players of the Indian cricket team after a string of poor performances. The most recent of these is the team’s 3-1 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Domestic Matches Compulsory Participation

The BCCI has, under the new policy, made it compulsory for players to play in domestic games. The new move is in place to keep Indian cricketers in form and rhythm so that there are no losses of form between international tours. The decision has come in after many questioned the inconsistency and loss of form from the key players, which meant that India’s batters were unable to produce during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Restrictions on Personal Shoots and Staff Presence

The BCCI has also placed a restriction on personal shoots when series or tours are going on. This restriction aims to cut away distractions for players and remind them of the most important function, which is representing the team. Personal obligations have been talked about quite frequently in the media because some players are taking these opportunities to expand on their other interests, so this creates questions about their devotion to the sport.

Stricter Adherence to Guidelines

The new policy clearly states that all players are expected to adhere strictly to the guidelines. Non-compliance will lead to disciplinary actions. The BCCI aims to foster an environment where players prioritize the team’s success over personal interests, reinforcing a collective approach to achieving excellence in international cricket.

Ensuring Accountability

The measures are aimed at increasing accountability in the team, particularly after recent failures like the 3-1 series loss to Australia. The batting collapse in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been the most glaring Indian team failure that has called for a more disciplined and focused approach to international cricket. By emphasizing that established policies need to be adhered to, the BCCI aims to focus on Indian cricket and keep the team on a path for better performances in future tournaments.

With the new set of regulations coming into place, the BCCI hopes to give the Indian cricket team a much more unified, disciplined environment wherein individual distractions are kept at a minimum and where the collective focus is firmly fixed on success. With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy having slipped through the fingers of the team, this change is looked upon as one of the more essential steps that would help rebuild the strength and competitiveness of the team.
