The Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on the Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on May 27 and will make way towards the qualifiers. Virat Kohli, who has been at the epitome of RCB’s batting in the recent past, will once again etch his name in the record books. He is just 24 runs short of shattering the 9,000 runs record for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in T20 cricket. He is currently the highest run scorer for the franchise with 8,976 runs and is way past cricket legends like AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle.

Kohli’s Bengaluru Journey
Virat Kohli has been a part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru ever since its inception in 2008. He has been playing for the Bengaluru-based franchise for the past 18 years. In the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League, Kohli was acquired by the RCB for a sum of just 12 lakhs INR. In the 2025 edition of the IPL, Kohli was retained by the Bengaluru based franchise for 21 crores. Kohli is the team’s longest-serving captain, who has led the team for 143 matches from 2011 to 2023. Under his leadership, RCB reached the finals in 2016 and have qualified for the playoffs 4 times in 2015,2016,2020, and 2021. This will be the fifth time for the Bengaluru franchise to appear in the playoffs, but this time it is led by young Rajat Patidar.
Virat Kohli- The Lone Warrior For RCB
Virat Kohli is currently in the 6th spot for the highest run scorer for this season. He has smashed 548 runs in 12 matches with an impressive strike rate of 145.35. His best season score is 73*, which he smashed in the clash against the Punjab Kings. He has been the lone warrior for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru this season because, apart from him, no other RCB batter could make it to even the top 20 for the highest runs in this season.
