Milestone for Joe Root: It was a historic moment when Joe Root scored the most runs for England in Test cricket, ending Alastair Cook’s streak when he hit a straight drive for four during the first Test against Pakistan at the Multan International Cricket Stadium. He scored a total of 12,473 runs in his career, just one run more than Cook’s previous record of 12,472.
Assessing The Achievement
With the milestone sealed, Root waved to his teammates and coaching staff through a flutter of his hand and bat as they welcomed him with applause from the balcony of the dressing room. Root started the tour 70 short of Cook’s mark and celebrated the milestone with a drive down the ground off Aamer Jamal.
Recent Milestones In Test Cricket
Last month, Root also broke the record for most Test centuries by an English player when he scored two hundred against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. He is fifth on the all-time list of leading run-scorers in Test cricket, although he is more than 800 runs behind Rahul Dravid in fourth place.

Can Joe Root Break Sachin Tendulkar’s Record?
While Root is still 3,000 miles away from the world record set by Sachin Tendulkar, Cook feels he has a good probability of breaking it. “I see him surpassing the record of Sachin Tendulkar,” he was quoted as saying to the BBC. He further stated that the hunger he has for the game has been very useful for his inning, particularly with Ben Stokes replacing him from the captaincy role.
Cook further added, “The only slight hurdle in his way will be the Ashes series—there’s always something happening around it.” He puts a 49 percent chance for Root against Tendulkar who stands at 51 percent but is sanguine about Root.
Root On Records
The only reason that it is in my mind is because people keep asking me about it,” he said. “I see myself playing Test cricket for a lot longer. Just enjoy the game.”
Performance In The Test Match
When Ben Duckett was missing to open the batting, Root slid in at No. 3. He linked well with Zak Crawley and Duckett, batting at No. 4. On the third morning, Root completed his 64th fifty in Test cricket before that session was on to see him survive a close lbw shout before grabbing his spot in the England record books.
