RCB Captain Announcement Live Updates: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) names Rajat Patidar it’s new skipper. The 2025-edition of the IPL will be his first assignment where he will lead the side. The former RCB skipper and batting sensation Virat Kohli congratulates Rajat Patidar for being the skipper of the RCB-side.

Over the years, seven players have taken on the captaincy of RCB: Rahul Dravid, Daniel Vettori, Shane Watson, Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Anil Kumble, and once again, Shane Watson.
Another player with valuable IPL captaincy experience is Krunal Pandya, who has captained LSG on several occasions before his move. While he may not be the star player in RCB’s squad, his versatility makes him a key asset, capable of providing solid team balance and likely securing a regular starting spot.
Much like Patidar, Krunal also leads Baroda in domestic cricket, where he has guided them to some successful seasons recently. This could position him as a strong, yet under-the-radar, contender for the role.
Besides Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya are the other two captaincy candidates with serious experience of leading teams. Patidar has led MP in SMAT and Vijay Hazare Trophy. Krunal, meanwhile, has been the Baroda captain.
In 2016, Kohli had led the franchise to the IPL final, and made 973 runs, to date the highest for a batter in a single IPL season.
In IPL 2024, Kohli was the top run-getter with 741 runs at a strike-rate of 154.
If Rajat Patidar is appointed RCB captain, it will be some tenure for him at the franchise. He first arrived in 2021, was released before the 2022 mega auction, he then went unsold in the mega auction, came to RCB as a replacement and is now on the verge of becoming captain.
