‘Ravichandran Ashwin Deserves More Recognition For His All-Rounder Excellence’, Said Ramiz Raja

Ramiz Raja also labelled the India star a "no-nonsense cricketer"

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Ramiz Raja has recently rated Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin and says that he hasn’t received the recognition due to him. Quoting Ashwin as the “no-nonsense cricketer”, Ramiz is talking about the brilliance of the All-rounder in the recent two-match series played against Bangladesh, wherein he was declared ‘Player of the Series’ scoring 114 runs and taking 11 wickets.

Ashwin hasn’t been celebrated enough for his all-round skills,” said Ramiz in a video on his YouTube channel. “His record speaks for itself—he’s as good as anyone out there. He approaches the game with a grounded attitude and even while sitting on the bench, he takes it all in stride. He understands his role and the team’s dynamics.”

He always performs at his best when he gets an opportunity. That is what one can learn from his game,” said Ramiz, while pointing out that Ashwin has strong opinions but doesn’t analyse too much off the field. “His sharp take on cricket comes out very well in his commentary,” said Ramiz.

Throughout the series, Ashwin achieved many records, and that includes equalizing Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan for the most ‘Player of the Series’ awards, adding up to 11 in total. In the first Test in Chennai, Ashwin produced a counter-attacking knock of 113 and took six wickets in the second innings to steer India to an emphatic victory.

This was the fourth time Ashwin achieved a century and a five-wicket haul in a Test match – only behind Ian Botham of England, with five such occasions. Ashwin went on to claim his 37th five-wicket haul that leaves him and Shane Warne equal for the second-most appearances of such hauls in Test cricket after Muralitharan’s 67.

Ashwin also crossed the 750 international wickets milestone, making him the 12th player globally and the second Indian to do so.

He scored 3,423 runs in 102 Tests with an average of 26.74 and has six centuries and 14 fifties in his kitty, which makes him the one most if not all, critics consider being one of the finest Test all-rounders produced in this century.

His bowling numbers are just as impressive as his batting with 527 wickets at an average of 23.65 including 37 five-wicket hauls and eight ten-wicket hauls with best bowling figures of 7/59.
