Mumbai clinched the Ranji Trophy 2024 title by defeating Vidarbha by 169 runs at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, marking their 42nd championship victory and solidifying their status as a dominant force in Indian domestic cricket. The outcome of the final, Mumbai’s 48th in the tournament’s 90-year history, was determined when the hosts established a formidable target of 538 runs for the visiting team at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. This win ended Mumbai’s eight-year drought since their last triumph in the 2015-16 season. Led by Ajinkya Rahane, who became the 26th Mumbai captain to win the Ranji Trophy, Mumbai showcased a strong performance throughout the match.

Facing a daunting target of 538 runs, Vidarbha entered Day 4’s Stumps at 248 for 5 in 92 overs, with Akshay Wadkar and Harsh Dubey at the crease. Despite a challenging final day, Wadkar reached a century off 195 balls, adding pressure on Mumbai. However, Mumbai’s resilience paid off as Tanush Kotian dismissed Wadkar, followed by Tushar Deshpande removing Dubey.
Mumbai’s bowlers, particularly Kotian, who claimed impressive figures of 4 wickets for 95 runs, along with Deshpande and Musheer Khan, contributed to restricting Vidarbha’s innings. Despite being at 353 for 5 initially, Vidarbha struggled to maintain momentum and eventually collapsed, getting bowled out for 368.
In his farewell match, Dhawal Kulkarni’s dismissal of Umesh Yadav sealed Mumbai’s victory in the final.
