In a surprising move ahead of the IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals have announced that Rahul Dravid will be stepping down as the franchise’s head coach after just one season at the helm. The news was confirmed by the Jaipur-based franchise on social media platform X on Saturday (August 30).
Dravid, who featured in 46 IPL matches for Rajasthan Royals as a player, joined the franchise as head coach last year following the conclusion of his tenure as India’s head coach. However, the 2025 IPL season proved to be challenging for the Royals, who managed only four wins from 14 matches, finishing ninth in the league table.

A Farewell Filled with Respect
The franchise expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Dravid for his contribution, stating:

In an official statement, Rajasthan Royals added:
“Rahul has been central to the Royals’ journey for many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, instilled strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise.”
The franchise also revealed that Dravid had been offered a broader role within the organization as part of a structural review, but he chose not to accept it.

Dravid becomes the second head coach to part ways with an IPL franchise ahead of the 2026 mega auction, following Chandrakant Pandit’s departure from Kolkata Knight Riders last month.
