Just hours after Gautam Gambhir signed his contract to become the head coach of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid wished him well. He took up the post when Dravid decided not to continue following the team’s recent T20 World Cup victory.
Gautam Gambhir: The New Head Coach Of Team India
The side won all three T20 International matches but lost the ODI series 1-2 when the former India opener started his coaching career in Sri Lanka. On Thursday, the same day that India kicked off their domestic season against Bangladesh, Gambhir made his coaching debut as a Test player. Dravid’s inner voice told him that Gambhir will be successful in his new role, of course, mentioning his experience as an IPL player and coach.
“He (Gambhir) has got a lot of experience, as a player also he has played a lot, he obviously coached quite a bit. I am sure he will be great,” said Dravid, who coached India to the T20 World Cup title in June.
“In any situation everyone brings his own experience and knowledge to the table. I am sure the team will benefit from everything that Gautam brings to them with his team,” he added.
Team India was coached by Rahul Dravid to both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup final. India’s test season, captained by Gautam Gambhir has already has begun. The team will play 10 back-to-back Test matches in a row over the course of four months before heading to Australia to play a five-match series, the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“I know how dedicated and passionate you are about Indian cricket, and I’m sure you will bring all these qualities to this new job,” he said.
“From one Indian cricket coach to another, one last thing. In the most heated of times, exhale, take a step back and even if it’s difficult for you, crack a smile. Whatever else happens, that will shock people. I wish you the very best Gautam and I am sure you will take the Indian team to even greater heights,” concluded Dravid.

Dravid also gave Gambhir the assurance that, despite the task’s difficulty, the players, coaching staff, and legendary cricketers will always support him.
