The Tough Decision to Retire
In his retirement video, Nadal talked about how difficult this decision was. He said, “I am retiring from professional tennis. The reality is that it has been some difficult years, these last two especially. It is obviously a difficult decision, one that has taken me some time to make. But in this life, everything has a beginning and an end.”

Final Matches Ahead
Last month, Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Laver Cup 2024, which he initially planned to be his last event. He had also confirmed that he would participate in the Laver Cup after the Paris 2024 Olympics. This would have been his fourth appearance at the Laver Cup, following events in Prague (2017), Geneva (2019), and a farewell match with his friend Roger Federer in London (2022).
Recent Performance
So far this season, Nadal has a record of 12 wins and 7 losses. He last played at the Paris Olympics, where he lost in the second round to Novak Djokovic. In the past year, Nadal had hinted that 2024 could be his final year on tour, and his retirement announcement has confirmed those thoughts.
