Rafael Nadal, 22-Time Grand Slam Champion, Announces Retirement from Tennis After Davis Cup

Last month, Rafael Nadal withdrew from the Laver Cup 2024, which he initially planned to be his last event. He had also confirmed that he would participate in the Laver Cup after the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Rafael Nadal, one of the greatest tennis players ever, has announced his retirement from the sport. In a heartfelt video, the 22-time Grand Slam champion said goodbye to tennis, a game that made him a beloved figure around the world. His final match will be at the Davis Cup final for Spain, scheduled for November.

A Storied Career

Nadal’s career is remarkable, with 22 Grand Slam titles, including a record 14 French Open wins. He has also won 92 ATP singles titles, which include 36 Masters titles and an Olympic gold medal. Nadal is currently one of only three men in tennis history who achieved the Career Golden Slam in singles.

The Tough Decision to Retire

In his retirement video, Nadal talked about how difficult this decision was. He said, “I am retiring from professional tennis. The reality is that it has been some difficult years, these last two especially. It is obviously a difficult decision, one that has taken me some time to make. But in this life, everything has a beginning and an end.”
