At the start of the much anticipated India vs England 5-match Test series, Indian star batter Shubman Gill was given the no.3 spot in the batting order. Replacing Cheteshwar Pujara in the lineup, many fans and pundits were not too sure about the young batter’s selection as Gill had not been too good in the red ball format earlier. However, Gill had later proved his critics wrong and showcased some fine batting displays during the course of the series.
“Short mid-wicket is Virat Kohli’s position. It is very difficult to replace him. Virat and (Suresh) Raina. (Shubman) Gill started off there in the first test, and he looked very uncomfortable. By the final Test, he got it (like Vijay says to Sivakarthikeyan). He also took a catch of (Ben) Duckett on covers. It shows that he wants to improve his game on a day-to-day basis, and he’s working on it,” Ashwin said.

Once Gill got through his troubled times in the first two tests and scored 92 at Rajkot, he went into a different gear. as I said, he matured as a cricketer. This match was a double hundred for the talking, but he settled for a 100. pic.twitter.com/sTqs6Og5qV
