Punjab Kings won by 18 runs
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) occupy the top spot in IPL title wins alongside their competitors while being the undisputed champion because they reached every group stage apart from four times. Punjab Kings (PBKS) consistently take the position of weakest performers and become the regular subject of playful criticism. During this season CSK and PBKS appear to have reversed their typical positions as one of the most successful teams.
PBKS maintained fourth place after three league matches by losing their first encounter closely followed by two consecutive victories. CSK currently occupies second to the bottom slot after a losing three and winning single match from their four games. PBKS has discovered a perfect batting approach while CSK suffers from a serious lapse in offense after losing their leading-order batters. Though Punjab cricketers want to recover from their 100-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals during the home part of their schedule.
The assistant bowling coach Sridharan Sriram of CSK used his defense statement to explain that such poor team performance occurs at the beginning of each season as specific teams need time to establish their formations and individual roles. Sridharan Sriram mentioned that batsmen play based on the conditions without predetermined batting sequences. The decision-making process between coaches and captains depends on what serves both their team and opposition and current playing condition best according to him as noted in the CSK website.
Yash Thakur to Jadeja, no ball, SIX, to deep mid-wicket
Yash Thakur to Dhoni, out Caught by Chahal!! Nervous smile from Shreyas. Meanwhile Yash Thakur has his arms raised in triumph. Was a poor delivery, low full-toss down leg, short fine-leg was inside, Dhoni did not go for it full-blooded, just tried to help it fine and found Chahal. A fumble the first time but he hangs on the 2nd time. That should be the game then.
Ferguson to Dhoni, leg byes, 1 run, looked close but umpire Abhijit Bhattacharya gives it not out. It's ump's call on hitting. Very full and angled in on leg-stump, Dhoni heaves and misses, hit on the back leg and Prabhsimran was the one who was convinced, but it was not to be. Stoinis would have got Dhoni with a direct-hit from short third man. Replays show that Dhoni was taking it easy and did not expect the throw to come to his end, nearly caught shot
Ferguson to Dhoni, SIX, to long-off
Ferguson to Dhoni, leg byes, 1 run
Ferguson to Shivam Dube, out Bowled!! Massive wicket and PBKS are elated. Ferguson punches the air in delight. A slower-ball and well-disguised, the knuckle-ball, well-executed and Shivam Dube is way too early into the swipe to leg, misses and the top of middle-stump is found. That was bowled at 127kph, Dube lost his touch all of a sudden in the last 5-10 minutes and now loses his wicket.
Arshdeep Singh to Shivam Dube, 1 run, dropped by Lockie at backward point. So many chances dropped tonight. Full outside off, Shivam Dube slices it and it's at a comfortable height for Lockie, he drops it and wrings his hands in pain. Should have been taken

Marco Jansen to Conway, SIX, 50 for Conway. Brilliant shot this.
Marco Jansen to Conway, FOUR, to deep mid-wicket
Stoinis to Conway, 1 run, slower short delivery at Conway, he pulls it down and to deep backward square-leg, just one
Marco Jansen to Conway, 2 runs, dropped by Chahal at short fine-leg. Full on leg-stump, flicked low and Chahal got there to his right, but fails to hang on, was not a difficult chance
Yash Thakur to Conway, leg byes, 1 run, to backward square leg
Yash Thakur to Conway, FOUR, to deep extra cover
Ferguson to Shivam Dube, SIX, to deep mid-wicket
The required rate is touching 13 and CSK need a few big overs from here. That's what Priyansh and PBKS did so well. They got big overs in between the overs where they did not score many.
Ferguson to Shivam Dube, FOUR, width and crashed for four. A short of length delivery outside off, allows Shivam Dube to free his arms and he cuts hard and wide of cover and mid-off
Ferguson to Gaikwad, out Caught by Shashank Singh!! Ferguson pumps his fist. He has struck 2nd ball.
Maxwell to Ravindra, out Stumped!!
Marco Jansen to Ravindra, FOUR, to deep mid-wicket
Maxwell to Conway, FOUR, uses the depth of the crease and muscles the pull wide of the man at mid-on for a four. The man at deep mid had no hance as Conway hit that hard
Arshdeep Singh to Ravindra, FOUR, short, wide, bad ball and steered down to third man for a four. One bounce and into the fence. That was a bad ball and Ravindra had no qualms in putting it away
Yash Thakur to Conway, no run, superb from Yash Thakur. The batter danced down but Yash Thakur bowled a bumper and Conway let it go
Pathirana to Shashank Singh, 3 runs, clumsy effort to end the innings. Sums up CSK's performance in this season. That's fifty for Singh as well. Superb knock from him. Ruturaj does afford a smile. Seemed a helpless one. The batter drilled a fuller one wide of cover. Noor dived, put in the slide and they get a triple in the end. The throw from the deep at the bowler's end was a weak one
Pathirana to Marco Jansen, SIX, straight down the ground for a sixer. One-handed sixer. That was fuller, tailing in, slower, Marco Jansen got under the ball and slammed it down the ground for a sixer. Massive hit
Khaleel Ahmed to Marco Jansen, FOUR, to third man
Pathirana to Marco Jansen, SIX, and six more. On a length, Marco Jansen
Noor Ahmad to Shashank Singh, SIX, freebie and sixer. Dropped short, wide, Shashank Singh slaps it over cover. Flat and hard.
Pathirana to Marco Jansen, no run, slower, 131 kph, outside off, Marco Jansen swings at it and cue-ends the ball down to the keeper
Noor Ahmad to Priyansh Arya, out Caught by Shankar!! Taken by the man at long-on. The roller coaster has ended. One helluva ride. Even CSK fans would have enjoyed this superb show from Arya. For a change, he didn't time it. The ball was hit flat and the man at long-on took it with elan. That was floated wide, outside off, dipped a little, Priyansh Arya went for the slog sweep and found the man at long-on. Hit flat and the man at long-on this time checked his back foot to see if he is inside or not, was well inside.
Pathirana to Priyansh Arya, FOUR, maiden IPL century for Priyansh Arya! Take a bow, young man! He came in with a clear plan, picked his spots and has hit the bowlers all around the ground. He had some reputation but was more of an unknown commodity.
Ashwin to Priyansh Arya, SIX, hammered!
Noor Ahmad to Shashank Singh, SIX, going, going and gone! The conventional leg-spinner and it's tossed up outside off, it's in the arc. Shashank Singh kneels down on one knee and slog sweeps it with the spin
Ashwin to Maxwell, out Caught&Bowled!! That's a brilliant reflex catch from Ashwin and he is over the moon! Two in the over for the veteran. The carrom ball and it's flighted on a length on middle and leg, turns away a bit, Maxwell clears his front leg and smacks it straight. Ashwin hardly has time to react but he gets into a good position on his followthrough. The ball slips from his right hand due the power with which it was hit but he uses his left hand to control the ball and gets hold of the ball with support from the body.
Ashwin to Nehal Wadhera, out Caught by Dhoni!! Another batter departs in a bid to play an expansive shot! Darted in on a length across Nehal Wadhera. He tries to slog it across but only manages to get a top-edge behind. Dhoni takes a few steps behind and is safe as houses.
Jadeja to Priyansh Arya, no run
Ashwin to Priyansh Arya, SIX, maiden IPL fifty for Priyansh Arya!
Khaleel Ahmed to Stoinis, out Caught by Conway!!
Khaleel Ahmed to Priyansh Arya, FOUR, to deep backward point
Mukesh Choudhary to Priyansh Arya, FOUR, Priyansh Arya is putting on a display here! Slightly overpitched on off, Priyansh Arya leans into it and lofts it nonchalantly over mid-off to find the fence once again
Khaleel Ahmed to Shreyas Iyer, out Bowled!! Cleaned him up! Khaleel Ahmed has got the big fish and he is pumped up!
Mukesh Choudhary to Priyansh Arya, SIX, to backward square leg
Khaleel Ahmed to Priyansh Arya, SIX, to sweeper cover
Punjab Kings have won the toss and have opted to bat
