With Jurgen Klopp deciding to leave Liverpool FC at the end of the season, fans would be excited to see how his last Premier League tie against Manchester Cty would fare out for him and his team, considering they are one of the prime contenders for the PL title.
Pep and Klopp’s rivalry has been spanning from their tenures at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, with him and Pep Guardiola at the center. Guardiola acknowledges that he will miss the competition they shared but is confident that Klopp will make a return sooner or later.
Speaking ahead of the match, Guardiola said: “I respect completely his decision. I spoke with him and had the feeling that he will be back sooner or later. He loves football and he explained perfectly the reason why. The Premier League is the last time, but maybe we will meet in the FA Cup. We will see. I don’t think it will be the last time. He’s young – and I’m young. It was always a pleasure – and it will be (on Sunday) as well.”
“He doesn’t play, but the way he makes his teams play football, you always learn. And Anfield is so tough, especially with the quality of the team. The crowd. of course, but especially the quality of the team. I think it will be nice because it always has been, and we accept the challenge.” he added.
Head to Head
Hosts Liverpool have only lost one match out of the last 20 Premier League meetings against City. They have won 13 games and have drawn on 6 occassions.
It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the battle of the greats. Will Pep’s side conquer the fortress or will there be a fairytale ending for Jurgen Klopp against his age old rival Pep Guardiola.
