New Delhi: Manchester City’s new signing is already into double figures for the season and it’s only September. Erling Haaland won the Premier League Player of the Month.
The Norway international already tops the goalscoring charts in England’s top flight with 10 goals in six games, four clear of nearest challenger Aleksander Mitrovic.
Haaland also needed just four Premier League games to grab his first hat-trick in the competition, scoring three goals in 19 minutes against Crystal Palace.
Haaland repeated the hattrick in his next outing against Nottingham Forest as Haaland took the match ball home for the second game in a row as City thrashed the Premier League newcomers 6-0.
Haaland bagged a brace on his Premier League debut, with his first goal of the season coming from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win over West Ham at the London Stadium.
The Norwegian won the spot-kick himself after being brought down in the area by substitute goalkeeper Alphonse Areola as he raced onto a through-ball from Ilkay Gundogan. Haaland then finished off West Ham with his second of the afternoon on 65 minutes.
“I am delighted to win this award for the first time it was an incredible start of the season for the team and I am grateful to everyone who voted,” Haaland said in a statement
“We all wanted to hit the ground running this season, so winning four games out of five was a great start for us in what is the most challenging competition in the world. I am happy to have played my part by scoring goals. Hopefully, I can continue to support the team and carry on our strong start to the season,” he added
City are second in the league standings after six games with 14 points, one behind leaders Arsenal. They will travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
