Former Indian cricketers RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha have joined Ajit Agarkar as new selectors for the Senior Men’s Team. Meanwhile, Amita Sharma has replaced Neetu David as the new chairperson of the Women’s Senior Selection Committee, following the annual general meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held on Sunday.
Singh was part of the Indian side that won the T20 World Cup
A former left-arm pacer, Singh was part of the Indian side that won the T20 World Cup in 2007. Ojha and Singh have replaced S. Sharath and Subroto Banerjee on the men’s panel, while Sharath has now been given charge of the Junior Selection Panel. Former Indian pacer Praveen Kumar, batter Amay Khurasiya, Ashish Winston Zaidi, and Shakti Singh were among the applicants for a position in the Senior Men’s Selection Committee.
Ojha, who made his debut in 2008, played 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and six T20Is for India, taking a total of 144 wickets across formats. The former left-arm spinner represented Hyderabad, Bengal, and Bihar in domestic cricket before transitioning to a commentator role. He also previously served on the IPL Governing Council.
As per official records, RP Singh made 82 international appearances for India, claiming close to 124 wickets across formats. Before taking up a full-time role as a television commentator, he was also a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the BCCI.
Former India all-rounder Amita Sharma was selected as the new head of the Women’s Selection Committee on Sunday. Sharma has an impressive record, having played 116 ODIs and picked up 87 wickets. In addition, she featured in 41 T20Is and five Test matches, taking 16 and five wickets respectively.
She will be joined on the women’s selection panel by former players Shyama Dey, Sulakshana Naik, Jaya Sharma, and Sravanti Naidu. The new selection committee is expected to join the National Cricket Centre of India (NCCI) office after the conclusion of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, which begins on September 30.
Mithun Manhas Named New BCCI President
Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas, a seasoned all-rounder with 9,714 first-class runs and 27 centuries, has been elected as the 37th BCCI president, succeeding Roger Binny. Manhas, who played 157 First-Class, 130 List A, and 55 IPL matches between 1997-98 and 2016-17, was chosen as the consensus candidate following an informal meeting of the Board’s key members in New Delhi.
