Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s batting technique was brutally exposed during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. At one end, Virat only scored 190 runs from five games whereas Rohit could manage to get 31 runs from three matches. Both the cricketers have been the biggest match-winners for the Indian team for a long time and received a lot of criticism due to their underwhelming performances. Team India ended up losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by a margin of 1-3.
Ravi Shastri Gives Advice To Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma
Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri believes that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should go on to play domestic cricket and see out on how it goes. Shastri added that domestic cricket gives senior players gell with the current younger generation and can help in improving technique against playing spin. Shastri said to ICC, “If there’s a gap for them, I think they should go back and play some domestic cricket and see how it is. Because when you play Test match cricket for that length of time, it’s important to play domestic cricket for two reasons: You’re abreast with the current generation (and) you can contribute to that younger generation with your experience.”
He added, “And more importantly you get to play spin more than you will ever play. So if you see India as recorded, India on turning tracks is not the greatest. If you have quality spinners in the opposition, they can trouble you. And they have troubled India.”
Virat Kohli managed to score a hundred in Perth but couldn’t play any other impactful knock throughout the series. Also, the latter got out in the fourth stump channel which includes the wicket keeper and first slip. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma isn’t expected to make a return to Team India’s Test side and may retire from the format.
