Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has agreed to a two-year contract extension by the club. Guardiola’s contract was set to end this season. With the extension, the 53-year-old is now set to complete more than 10 years at the club since his joining in 2016.
Taking to X, Manchester City posted: ” We are absolutely delighted to announce that @PepTeam has signed a contract extension”.
After agreeing to the contract extension, Guardiola talked about his prolonged connection with English Premier League club.
“Manchester City means so much to me. This is my ninth season here; we have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club. That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons,” Guardiola was quoted as saying by Reuters.
“I felt I could not leave now, simple as that. I think we deserve, after four defeats in a row, a chance to bounce back and try to turn the situation around,” added the 53-year-old.
Guardiola expressed his love for the club and emphasised that he would resign the day he stops enjoying his job at Manchester City.
“I enjoy being here. I like being the manager of this club. The moment I will not have that feeling, even under contract, I will ring my chairman and CEO and say the best for the club right now is I have to leave,” he said.
Under the managership of Guardiola, Manchester City have won six Premier League titles and one Champions League crown. Under him, the year 2023 was special for the club as they won three prominent titles, including, FA Cup and Champions League.
