With the T20 World Cup 2024 fast approaching, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made a significant decision to decide which players will travel to the United States of America as well as to the West Indies for the quadrennial event. The decision has been made following a string of poor results from the side.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the dismissal of the national selection committee on Sunday, revealing plans to establish a new committee just months ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. This decision by the PCB follows a meeting between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and former chief selector Wahab Riaz at the PCB headquarters in Lahore on Friday.
“The existing selection committee has been dissolved,” the PCB spokesperson said in a statement. “The new selection committee will be announced soon.”
During the meeting, Naqvi stressed the importance of selecting players based on merit, as per a statement released by the PCB. Riaz presented a comprehensive report on the performances of various players in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League.
“The new selection committee’s decisions on merit would be in front of everyone to see,” it concluded.

The PCB has assured that a new selection committee will be appointed promptly, with a clear mandate to independently make decisions aimed at enhancing the national team’s performance. The upcoming committee’s selection process will be transparent, ensuring that players are chosen solely based on their merit.
New Selection Committee
Naqi, speaking at a press conference in Karachi on Monday night, announced his intention to revamp the selection committee.
“But I believe that the selection committee should be empowered enough to be able to take these important decisions. The credit and blame will then lie with the committee, along with the coach and captain. Since they are responsible to bring results, they will be making decisions.” he added.
Pakistan cricket fans can anticipate exciting matches ahead, as the team is set to kick off their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against the hosts, the United States, in Dallas. Subsequently, they will face off against arch-rivals India in a high-stakes encounter in New York.
Additionally, the team will compete against Ireland and Canada in league matches, with the tournament’s final scheduled for June 29 in Bridgetown.
