The Paris Olympics shocked the world with a controversial show. A drag performance at the event, which included children and reimagined The Last Supper, is facing heavy criticism online for being overly sexualized and disrespectful to religious beliefs.

The performance, which was part of a larger artistic display, has split public opinion. The opening ceremony of the 33rd Olympic Games on Friday showcased many famous artists like Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura, and others.

The global sports event that captured everyone’s attention began with a vibrant parade featuring athletes from 206 different locations. Among them were refugees who marched down the Seine River despite heavy rain. However, the celebrations soon became controversial due to certain performances.

People online strongly criticized the controversial performance involving children, which depicted the Last Supper with drag queens. Many expressed anger and disapproval, calling it disrespectful to Christians.

But the controversy didn’t end there. Other performances, like the portrayal of Marie Antoinette being beheaded and Philippe Katerine acting as Dionysus, the God of Wine, also sparked a lot of discussion on social media.

“This is insane. They started their event by replacing Jesus and his followers at The Last Supper with men dressed in drag,” a user commented on X while sharing the performance clip. “There are 2.4 billion Christians worldwide and it seems like the Olympics wanted to make it clear right from the start that they’re not welcome,” they added.

” The 2024 Paris Olympics has gone totally crazy,” another person wrote. “The opening ceremony featured disrespect of religious images such as the Last Supper, the Golden Calf, and even the Pale Horse from the Book of Revelation.”

The organizers of the event explained it was a modern interpretation of the Greek god Dionysus, intended to show “how ridiculous violence between people is.” However, many people on social media saw it as a direct insult and a joke about certain religious beliefs.

The performance also caught the eye of Tesla owner Elon Musk, who found it “very disrespectful to Christians.” Even French politicians criticized the show.

“To all Christians watching the #Paris2024 ceremony and feeling insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it doesn’t represent France but a small group on the left willing to provoke,” Marion Maréchal said.
