Shooter Manu Bhaker is poised to secure an unprecedented third consecutive medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Saturday. While India’s hockey team, led by Harmanpreet Singh, made a remarkable comeback against Australia, the 22-year-old Bhaker positioned herself for more Olympic glory by clinching the second spot in the 25m sports pistol qualification.
Bhaker, hailing from Jhajjar, has already contributed two bronze medals to India’s tally at the Paris Games 2024. She opened India’s account with a bronze in the 10m air pistol event and added another bronze alongside Sarabjot Singh in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. As the reigning world champion in the 25m event, Bhaker is expected to secure her third medal on Day 8 of the Paris Games.
Today also marks the beginning of India’s campaign in women’s skeet qualification with Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan. Archer Deepika Kumari will face Michelle Kroppen in the women’s individual 1/8 eliminations, followed by Bhajan Kaur against Diananda Choirunisa. Additionally, boxer Nishant Dev will compete in the men’s welterweight quarter-finals against Marco Verde.
In badminton, Lakshya Sen has advanced to the semifinals of the men’s singles event, becoming the first Indian male badminton player to reach this stage at the Summer Games. He will face the winner of the match between 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew and Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen in the semi-finals.
