Vinesh, who sat in protest against the former WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh lost against wrestler Anju with a score of 0-10. Phogat, who has traditionally competed in the 50-kilogram category, aims to expand her participation to both the 50 and 53-kilogram categories for the upcoming Olympics. Her primary objective this time is to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024, necessitating an exceptional performance in the trials.

Earlier, another one of the protesting wrestlers and Tokyo Games medallist Bajrang Punia had failed to grab a Paris Olympics spot after being defeated by wrestler Rohit Kumar by a huge margin of 9-1. In the wrestling trials held at the Sai Centre in Patiala, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat refused to start the trials for three hours.
