Star Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has faced criticism due to Lahore Qalandars’ disappointing performance in the current Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. Despite leading the franchise to consecutive titles in the past two seasons, Shaheen has struggled to rally Lahore Qalandars this time around. Their lackluster performance has resulted in just one win, leaving them at the bottom of the points table. Cricket Pakistan reports that Shaheen may lose his position as captain of Pakistan’s T20 team.
According to the report, Shaheen Afridi is too young to carry the responsibility of Pakistan for now and he might be dropped from Captaincy before New Zealand Series.

“PCB’s new chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been receiving suggestions for a change in captaincy. Some believe that 23-year-old Shaheen is too young for this responsibility and needs more maturity,” the report claimed.
“On the other hand, some board members believe that a decision to change leadership close to the World Cup might not be wise as it could negatively impact the team’s performance. The final decision will be made by the chairman,” the report added.
Possible Replacement
With an upcoming T20 series against New Zealand next month, the decision regarding Shaheen’s captaincy will be made by Naqvi, with the T20 World Cup on the horizon.
It’s worth noting that wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan is a potential candidate for the captaincy, along with discussions involving former captain Babar Azam.
For context, Shaheen assumed the role of Pakistan’s T20 captain after Babar resigned following the ODI World Cup in India last year, prompted by Pakistan’s failure to reach the tournament’s semi-finals.
Shaheen led Pakistan in a recent five-match series in New Zealand, where the team lost 1-4 but managed to secure a victory in the final match of the series.
