Tabish Hashmi, the popular Pakistani television anchor, recently took a dig at Mohammad Rizwan’s English on his show Haarna Mana Hai on Geo TV. Hashmi playfully advised Pakistan’s captain to concentrate on speaking sensibly in his press conferences rather than speaking English.
His remarks immediately went viral and created a mixed reaction online. Some fans concurred with Hashmi, but others criticized him for ridiculing Rizwan for his language abilities.
Hashmi added, “He represents 250 million people. We desire our captain to speak nicely, appear good, utter reasonable things, and play fearless cricket with integrity. I am not saying that he must speak in English – he can speak in Urdu, but it should be reasonable. Why this ‘sometimes you win, sometimes you learn’? Sometimes there are cramps, sometimes acting?”
His comments left the panel, comprising former cricketers Mohammad Amir, Rashid Latif, and Ahmed Shehzad, in fits of laughter. Shehzad, who has also mocked Rizwan’s “you either win or learn” line earlier, almost slipped out of his chair laughing.
Hashmi continued, “These types of statements hold good when you’re playing well, like Australia does. But when you can’t win.”
