The future of India’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan remains uncertain. The Indian cricket team has not visited Pakistan since 2008 due to security concerns. While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) insists on hosting the entire ICC event in Pakistan, it remains to be seen what position the Indian government will adopt.
Meanwhile, the PCB, led by Mohsin Naqvi, has deferred the decision on India’s participation to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and has instructed board officials not to comment on the issue. Former Pakistan cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq has also stated that it is irrelevant whether the Indian team visits Pakistan for the tournament.
“It’s simple. If India wants to come, they can. If they don’t want to come, it doesn’t matter. There’s no point in making a fuss about it. This won’t make either party good or bad. This is ICC’s event, and they will look into this matter, as they should,” Mushtaq stated as reported by Cricket Pakistan.

Mushtaq, a former head coach of the Pakistan team, suggested that the current team management should consider appointing a new captain following the team’s disappointing group-stage exit in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup. He also expressed concern about the lack of long-term vision in previous leadership appointments.
He further said that those who are directly involved and observing the situation should assess what is truly happening and determine who is best suited to lead the team. When choosing a captain, considerations should include whether the focus is on short-term, long-term, or mid-term goals.
Saqlain Mushtaq also said that there appears to be a lack of vision in the decision-making process, with appointments and team changes being made on a day-to-day basis. This short-term approach reflects the uncertainty of those making the decisions, who may not have a long-term plan or be certain of their own positions.
