The appointment of Pakistan Cricket team’s coach is turning out to be a roller-coaster ride for the spectators. Earlier it was heard that the former Pakistani pacer Aaqib Javed is set to replace current coach Jason Gillespie but later the PCB announced on X saying,
“PCB strongly refutes the story. As announced previously, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan side for the two red-ball matches against South Africa.”
Gillespie is currently serving as the team’s interim white-ball coach after the controversial resignation of Gary Kirsten. The PCB’s announcement came after ESPNcricinfo reported that Gillespie would be removed from his role after the third T20I against Australia on Monday.
Upcoming Series
The Pakistan Cricket Team will be travelling to Zimbabwe for an ODI and T20 series in November 2024. Zimbabwe will host Pakistan for three ODI and three T20Is. Things will kick off on 24 November. The rivalry between the two nations is brewing hot from the past recent years. Zimbabwe beat the visitors by a run in a 2022 T20I World Cup game before Pakistan’s late surge to reach the final. Just after the Zimbabwe tour the team will be heading towards their South African expedition for 3 T20s, 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches.
It was somewhat surprising to see the replacement of coach Jason Gillespie as the performance of the Pakistani’s in the ODI series by clinching the series 2-1. The 3-match T20 International series has already been slipped from Pakistan but it would be just a few more moments before we see if Pakistan is whitewashed in Australia or they just manage to get the last T20 in Hobart and save themselves from embarrassment and prove they were not just ‘Lucky’ in the ODI series.
