Dubai: Pakistan came very close to winning the trophy of Asia Cup 2022 but poor batting performance on D-Day pushed the dream win away. Sri Lanka marked win by 23 runs in the finale and got hands on their 6th trophy.
After choosing to bowl first, Pakistan couldn’t stop the opponents and they got the target of 171 runs. The hosts also didn’t have a great start to the game as they lost wicket as early as on the third ball (Kusal Mendis) but B Rajapaska powered his side with unbeaten 71 runs. He was supported by Dhananjaya de Dilva (28) and W Hasaranga (36).

Babar Azam puts fault on batters
Pakistan captain Babar Azam after losing the final of the tournament had said that the batters weren’t upto mark. “Congratulations to Sri Lanka for playing outstanding cricket. We dominated them for the first eight overs, but the partnership that Rajapaska got was amazing. This was a true wicket and it is always nice playing in Dubai,” he said after the game.
“We didn’t bat according to our potential. We started well, but we gave away 15-20 extra runs and couldn’t finish well. A lot of positives for us to take. In a final, the margin for mistakes is lesser. Our fielding wasn’t up to the mark and the batting couldn’t finish it off well,” he said.

“But Rizwan, Naseem and Nawaz were positives. Ups and downs will be there, but it would be nicer if we made lesser mistakes,” he concluded.
