Young Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan has sparked controversy after a video surfaced on social media showing him wiping his eyebrows with a US dollar note.

Pakistan Batter Under Fire

The video, which also features Pakistan captain Babar Azam and other players, has been criticized by fans for Azam’s perceived insensitivity amid the country’s economic challenges.

In the video, the national players are seen sharing a light-hearted moment, with Azam holding US dollars while casually chatting with Babar, who is behind the camera along with other team members. Babar jokingly asks Azam, “What happened Abba?” to which Azam responds, “Bohat garmi hai” (It is too hot here), wiping his sweat with the dollar note, prompting laughter from his teammates. The video quickly went viral and circulated widely on social media.

One fan pointed out that while many Pakistanis are facing food shortages, Azam was seemingly mocking poor people by sitting comfortably and joking with a dollar note.

“Apart from a rare few in Pakistan’s sporting history, none have the charisma, impact and influence of any kind, nothing-for a young kid to aspire to. The current lot is just hopeless,” wrote one user in response on social media.

According to a reliable source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the video was also not well-received by some top officials. The players have been advised to avoid unnecessary social media posts, as the PCB’s digital media department regularly uploads content about the players.
