New Delhi: India’s most celebrated badminton star, P V Sindhu, is celebrating her 28th birthday on July 5 2023. Born on July 5 1995, Sindhu made her debut for India in 2011. Since then, she has established herself as the most successful women shuttler who ever played the game.

Glance at her career
In her notable career, Sindhu has won medals at various tournaments such as the Olympics and on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) circuit, including a gold at the 2019 World Championships.

Sindhu registered her name in a history book when she became the first and only Indian to become the badminton world champion and only the second individual athlete from India to win two consecutive medals at the Olympic Games. She won the silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics and followed it with a bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She was the first-ever Indian to win two Olympic medals.

Achievements in WBC
P V Sindhu is also the first and only Indian who won World Badminton Championships. She clinched a gold medal in the 2019 event held at Basel. Besides this, she has won Silver medals at the 2017 and 2018 events and bronze at the 2013 and 2014 events, making her a five-time medalist at the championships.
The Shutler also achieved Commonwealth Games glory with his wild draw game. She won gold in the women’s singles in 2022 in Birmingham and in the mixed team in 2018 on the Gold Coast.
Boost in her ranking
The 28-year old star rose to a career highest world ranking of no. 2 in April 2017. She is currently ranked at 12 (June 20, 2023). At the Age of 17, she jumped into the top 20 of the BWF World Rankings in September 2012.
Sindhu also clinched two Bronze medal at the Uber Cup, the top women’s badminton in the world. Apart from this, Sindhu also won several BWF World Tour titles, like the Swiss Open, Singapore Open, Syed Modi International.
