On This Day: The ‘Champion’ DJ Bravo Was Born Today!

The former West Indian legend played a pivotal role in West Indies' T20 title conquest.

On This Day, October 7: It is the birthday of the all-rounder who left an immense mark on the playground of T20 cricket; the great Dwayne Bravo, fondly known as ‘DJ Bravo’. Though he made important contributions in Test matches scoring centuries against cricketing giants like South Africa and Australia-Bravo decided to let go of test cricket and concentrated entirely on his brilliant T20 cricket career instead. His journey in this format has not been anything but remarkable, especially during his time with the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

Bravo’s Brilliance In Indian Premier League

Bravo headed the wickets chart in IPL in both years of 2013 and 2015, and he also fared incredibly in the CPL, topping the wicket-takers list in both 2015 and 2016. He created much hype in BBL during the 2017-18 season.

Two-Time T20 World Cup Winner!

A true team man, Bravo was intrinsic to the West Indies’ victories at the ICC T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016. His leadership was apparent when appointed one-day captain in 2013, albeit his period in the position was rather marred by an issue over payment that led the team to withdraw from their 2014 tour of India.

After announcing his retirement from international cricket back in October 2018, Bravo surprised many people when he returned over a year later in an attempt to defend the West Indies’ T20 World Cup title in 2021. The team saw an early exit during that tournament, and Bravo retired once again, this time at 38.

Dwayne Bravo, one of the ablest cricketers to have served the realm of T20 cricket: Just as resilience gives birth to brilliance, Bravo has made for himself a legacy – much like every great soul has. He began as a budding cricketer and emerged as one of the most feted T20 freelancers across the world. Happy Birthday, Bravo! To such beautiful yet ephemeral moments you have gifted us on the field, here’s to forever!
