Australia Aggressive Start
Australia set this game with a phenomenal start. The hundred by Travis Head from 59 balls triggered a big 175-run stand between him and David Warner within under 20 overs. No other Australian batter could cross the half-century barrier, but their powerful opening had put a great platform for an intimidating total of 388 runs.

New Zealand’s Response
New Zealand played cautiously during the powerplay of their innings but went on to play quite rhythmically with the help of Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra’s 96-run third-wicket partnership. Ravindra’s second century of the tournament brought New Zealand closer to the target, and Jimmy Neesham played a key role by steadily accumulating boundaries against an increasingly frantic Australian bowling attack.
Nail-Biting Finish
With 19 runs from the last over, it was drama enough when five wides were conceded off Mitchell Starc on the second ball. Neesham hit twos off the last three balls, which was not enough as while going for his second, he was run out of the fourth ball. And this was a repeat of Martin Guptill’s run-out in the 2019 World Cup final, which had seen Australia win by a mere five runs.
This has therefore set a record match aggregate in the World Cup tournament, as South Africa and Sri Lanka previously produced their highest aggregate of 724 runs earlier in this tourney. Such thrilling performances are what cricket under the World Cup has portrayed the excitement and competitiveness it commands.
