On This Day, November 2: In a great finish to the seven-match ODI series, Rohit Sharma‘s blistering 209 in Bangalore made India take home the Australia series by an emphatic margin. A high-scoring series indeed, since 3,596 runs were registered in just 11 innings that proved the batting might of both teams.
Historic Double-Century
He made the third double-century, in India’s ODI history after the great legend Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. By his fiery knock, 384 became a strong run for the Australian side to win.
Brave Reply by Australia
Despite the hot chase, Australia fought back very hard. James Faulkner, batting at No. 7, put on a sensational show by scoring a blistering 116 off 73 balls. This was then the fastest century by an Australian in ODIs. Still, Australia failed to pull it off and ended up at 326 runs.
A Series of Records
The last match of the series witnessed a mind-boggling fact: both teams hit a total of 38 sixes, thus setting a new record for the highest number of sixes in an ODI match. This series was not only thrilling cricket but also set up expectations for the next time when these two cricketing titans would meet.
