The night was marked with drama and chaos with an incredible comeback by none other than Cristiano Ronaldo, who’s known for his incredible moments on football field.

On September 1, 2021, world witnessed Portugal win a dramatic game by 2-1 against the Republic of Ireland in a World Cup Qualifying match. Ronaldo not only guided Portugal to win but also broke the all-time world record.

In the last couple of seconds, with two headers (110′ & 111′), Ronaldo shattered the men’s all-time international goal scoring record.

The Record Breaking Moment

The record not only broke the all-time stats but also marked a new chapter in Ronaldo’s life as the greatest of all time in the football history. The first half of the game, Ronaldo had a chance to put Portugal ahead. But the young Irish (Gavin Bazunu) made an incredible save to prevent Ronaldo’s early party.

Portugal started to lag as the time passed. Right before the second half, Ireland took an unexpected lead against the Portugal side, with courtesy of John Egan. During second half, after reading the scorecard and scenario, Ronaldo looked bit frustrated.

During the 89th minute of the game, Ronaldo changed his gears and was completely involved to get his side into the game until the magical moment.

Ronaldo’s journey includes all his dedication, his persistent effort, and unrelenting desire which made him all-time leading goal-scorer in men’s international football.

Since making his debut, he scored his first goal for his country in UEFA Euro 2004 against Greece. His exploits in his first-ever World Cup appearance in 2006, made him the youngest Portuguese player to score at a World Cup.
