Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has lauded the star India batter Virat Kohli, calling him the best chaser in the history of cricket.
The 34-year-old Kohli has been in the midst of some serious form in ongoing World Cup 2023, recently racking up scores of 103 not out against Bangladesh and 95 versus New Zealand to seal his authority in the tournament.
Fans and cricket experts from all across the globe have been heaping praise on Virat and the latest one to join this list is Du Plessis. The South African, who is also Kohli’s skipper at Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indian Premier League, expressed his admiration about the former Indian captain’s temperament in run chases.
“Virat Kohli is the best chaser in cricket history. The standout qualities of Virat Kohli are his unwavering hunger and unmatched competitiveness to constantly strive for excellence in the game,” Du Plessis told Star Sports.
The 39-year-old Du Plessis mentioned that he’s never seen anyone with a stronger mindset than Kohli, insisting that he’s always striving for greatness.
“I have never witnessed anyone with a stronger mindset than him. He is always on, always striving for greatness, and that is incredibly inspiring for everyone,” Du Plessis added.
Virat is currently the second highest run-scorer in the ongoing World Cup with 354 runs in five matches at an astonishing average of 118. He is behind South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who leads the charts with 431 runs in six matches.
Kohli will be back in action as hosts India, who are the only unbeaten team in the tournament, takes on England at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday.
