Regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan missed out due to an injury as Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first against India in an important ODI World Cup 2023 match at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Najmul Hossain Shanto is leading Bangladesh in absence of Shakib and Nasum Ahmed has replaced the star all-rounder for this game.
“Proud moment for me and my family. We’d like to bat today. Looks like a fresh wicket. If we get a good score, it’ll be good for the team. He (Shakib) is struggling a bit, Nasum is coming in for him. We have some great memories against India, hopefully we continue our form,” said Shanto at the toss.
“I hope it’ll be a great match. We love to see the crowd, hopefully they’ll support both teams. Hasan comes in for Taskin,” he added.
On the other hand, hosts India, who are on an unbeaten run didn’t make any change in their playing XI for this encounter.
“I would have bowled first. It’s working at this point of time, don’t see any reason to change it. That’s important in this WC, keeping everybody in good space. The boys are in good shape, good mental space as well and enjoying the cricket. So far so good, we want to continue this momentum, Same team,” said India skipper Rohit Sharma.
After winning back to back matches against Australia, Afghanistan and Pakistan, India are looking to keep their unbeaten streak intact while Bangladesh are trying to bring their ODI World Cup campaign back on track.
