MS Dhoni, a widely popular cricketer, isn’t known for frequenting social media. Unlike many of his peers, Dhoni rarely updates his profiles, sometimes going months between posts. In a recent YouTube video posted on Monday, Dhoni provided a detailed explanation for his social media habits. He expressed a dislike for the micro-blogging site Twitter, now renamed as X after Elon Musk’s takeover. Dhoni does maintain an X account, where his last post was in January 2021.
MS Dhoni stated in a video posted by Dubai 103.8 YouTube channel on Monday that he prefers Instagram over Twitter. He believes that nothing good has happened over Twitter, especially in India, where controversies often arise from tweets. Dhoni criticized the platform for its former limit of 140 characters, saying it didn’t allow for proper elaboration. He expressed reluctance to post on Twitter, as people could interpret his messages however they liked.

MS Dhoni mentioned that he used to think certain things were not for him. He still likes Instagram because he can post a picture or video and leave it there. However, this is also changing now. He prefers Instagram but isn’t active on it much because he believes fewer distractions are better. Occasionally, though, he posts something for the fans to let them know where he is, saying he’s somewhere good, in good hands, doing what he likes.
He also discussed the challenges of playing only in the IPL without participating in any other tournaments throughout the year.
He said that he most challenging aspect has been staying fit without playing cricket year-round. When you return, you’re up against youngsters who are extremely fit and have been playing international cricket. Professional sport isn’t easy; there are no discounts. To compete at that level, you need to be as fit as the other guys. Age doesn’t give you any grace, so he has has to pay attention to his eating habits and put in some training. He’s not on social media, so there are fewer distractions.
