At the Paris Olympics 2024, female shooter Manu Bhaker has won a bronze medal. In the final, Manu scored 221.7 points. This is India’s first medal in the event. Manu Bhaker secured the bronze in the women’s 10-meter air pistol event. She had missed out on a medal at the Tokyo Olympics, but this time, Manu made the country proud by winning a bronze medal right at the start. Besides air pistol shooting, Manu has also participated in and won awards in various other sports.

Manu Bhaker hails from Jhajjar, Haryana. In school, she participated in several sports like tennis, skating, and boxing. Additionally, she took part in a martial art called ‘Thang Ta’ and won medals at the national level. After the Rio Olympics, Manu decided to pursue shooting.

Father Bought Her a Gun
According to available information, when Manu was 16 years old in 2016, she decided to try her hand at shooting. She asked her father for a sports shooting pistol. Always supportive, her father Ram Kishan Bhaker bought her a gun. This gun has now made Manu an Olympian.
In the 2017 National Shooting Championship, Bhaker broke the record of Olympian and former World No. 1 Heena Sidhu by scoring 242.3 points, winning the 10-meter air pistol final. She also won a silver medal at the 2017 Asian Junior Championship, and her achievements have brought her global recognition.
