The latter achieved several milestones throughout the series and also led the Indian team in two games. Bumrah displayed brilliant leadership skills in which the Indian team began the BGT series following a 295-run win in Perth, however, couldn’t win the Sydney Test but had kept his team in the hunt to win the match. The ace Indian pacer suffered a back spasm during the first innings of the Sydney Test and later couldn’t bowl in the whole match.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has backed Jasprit Bumrah as the full-time Indian captain in Test cricket. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar stated that it is a no-brainer for him and the next Test series is against England and he should be the Test captain. He said, “It’s a no-brainer for me. The next Test series in England and Bumrah has to be the Test captain. Rohit Sharma as a batter has not done enough considering the loss to NZ at home plus he opted out of the playing XI because he did not fit in.”

Team India couldn’t win a single match under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The Indian skipper took a rest from the fifth Test due to being in poor form and only scored 31 runs from three games. There were speculations that he might not return in Test cricket due to his poor form in the red-ball format.
