Star footballer Neymar has undergone an arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and is expected to be sidelined for almost a month as he now begins his recovery. The surgery comes as a big concern about his place in Brazil's squad as the FIFA World Cup is also approaching.

The injury, a torn meniscus happened in November but the Brazilian forward kept on playing through the pain during the final stretch of the season. Despite the setback, Neymar delivered when it mattered the most - he scored five goals and provided one assist in the last five matches.

His contract extension with the Santos also appears likely, now Neymar is prioritising his knee issue first. He underwent surgery shortly after Santos’ final game of the season and later shared an image from his hospital bed on social media.

Neymar has been Brazil's all-time leading run-scorer and he has repeatedly made it very clear that he will be featuring in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. But with less than seven months remaining until the World Cup, Neymar now faces a race against time.

Recently, Neymar attended the Tardezinha music festival, where he took to the stage and reaffirmed about his ambition to return back to the national team for the sporting event.

“I wanted to tell you we are going to do the impossible to bring the sixth [World Cup] title to Brazil,” Neymar said. “The possible and the impossible. In July you can hold me accountable. [Carlo] Ancelotti, help us!”

If we [Brazil] make the final, I promise to score a goal.”
