World Athletics Championships: Indian Javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra created history by winning the gold medal in the World Athletics Championships tournament held in Hungary’s capital Budapest with a remarkable throw of 88.17m.
With this feat, Chopra not only bagged his first-ever world championship gold but also became the first Indian athlete to secure the achievement at the prestigious event.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, Chopra’s closest competitor earned the silver medal after managing a best throw of 87.82m. Meanwhile, Czech Republic’s Javelin thrower Jakub Vadlejch f claimed the bronze with an 86.67m throw.
Chopra has been consistent throughout the tournament recording impressive distances. He registered throws at distances of 86.32m, 84.64m, 87.73m, and 83.98m.
Notably, Kishore Jena and DP Manu, two other Indian athletes also demonstrated their remarkable performances. Jena finished with a commendable 5th position with an 84.77m throw, while Manu ended in 6th place with his best throw at 84.14m.
Chopra became the second Indian athlete after shooter Abhinav Bindra, to hold the Olympic and World Championships medals at the same time.
